Comments are held for moderation until approved. This is because there are a significant number of pricks who think spamming blogs is a good use of computer cycles.  Comments that are not spam are likely to be approved after some delay.  If the blog becomes popular enough we may make commenting registration-only, but that is unlikely given the vast number of blogs and the scarcity of popular ones.
